Chelsea have decided to keep Josh Acheampong at the club after turning down a late move from Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day. The Premier League giants were clear in their stance, choosing not to strengthen a domestic rival during the winter transfer window.
According to reports, Crystal Palace submitted a bid for the young defender as they looked to urgently improve their back line before the transfer window closes. However, Chelsea rejected the approach, signalling that Acheampong remains part of their short-term plans despite limited first-team action so far.
With Chelsea’s decision, Crystal Palace are now forced to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements. The Eagles have been keen to add depth at the back, but time is running out as the deadline approaches, making their task more difficult.
Acheampong, who was promoted to Chelsea’s senior squad in 2024, was an unused substitute during the Blues’ 3–2 Premier League win over West Ham United at the weekend. At just 19 years old, the defender is seen as one for the future, and Chelsea appear unwilling to let him go so easily.
