Rivers: Parliament can turn man to woman – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said that parliament has the power to change many things through law, including issues that people once thought could never be altered. He made the comment while speaking on the role of the legislature in shaping society and governance in Rivers State.

Akpabio explained that lawmakers have wide authority to make, amend, and repeal laws that affect daily life. According to him, once a law is properly passed and signed, it becomes binding on everyone, no matter how controversial or unexpected it may seem.

His statement has generated mixed reactions from the public. Some people see it as a reminder of the power of democratic institutions, while others believe such remarks should be made carefully because of their social and cultural sensitivity.

Political analysts say Akpabio’s comment was more symbolic than literal, meant to stress how strong parliamentary authority is. They added that the real lesson is that elected representatives must use their powers responsibly and in the interest of the people.
