Iran, Russia, Colombia and Cuba have reacted strongly after reports emerged that the United States had captured Venezuela’s President, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife. While the US has not released full official details, the reports triggered immediate diplomatic responses, especially from countries that are allies of Venezuela.
Russia and Iran criticised the US action, describing it as interference in another country’s internal affairs. They warned that such moves could worsen global tensions and destabilise Latin America. Cuba also condemned the alleged capture, saying it was an attack on Venezuela’s sovereignty and a violation of international law.
Colombia, which shares a long border with Venezuela, called for calm and restraint. Colombian officials urged all sides to avoid actions that could lead to conflict or refugee crises in the region. They stressed the need for dialogue rather than force in resolving political disputes.
The situation remains unclear, with conflicting reports and no independent confirmation yet. However, the reactions show how sensitive Venezuela’s political situation is and how any major development there quickly becomes an international issue with global consequences.
