A former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to reports that the United States captured Venezuela’s President, Nicolás Maduro, saying such a thing cannot happen in Nigeria. According to him, Nigeria is a sovereign country with strong institutions and should not be compared with Venezuela in matters of foreign interference.
He said the situation in Venezuela shows what can happen when a country becomes politically and economically weak. The former presidential aide warned that nations that fail to protect their democratic systems and national pride become vulnerable to external pressure and influence.
The ex-aide also used the moment to advise Nigerian leaders to strengthen governance, fight corruption, and improve the economy so that Nigeria will never reach a point where foreign powers can dictate its political direction. He stressed that Nigeria must always act in its own interest and protect its independence.
He concluded by saying that while global politics is full of power struggles, Nigeria should focus on unity, stability and development rather than becoming involved in international confrontations or allowing itself to be compared with troubled states.
