A civil society group in Osun State has asked the Federal Government to reconsider the planned start date for the new tax reform laws. The group said the timeline is too short and could create confusion for businesses, workers, and state agencies that are still trying to understand the changes.
According to the group, many Nigerians are not yet fully informed about how the new tax system will work. They warned that rushing the implementation could lead to mistakes, poor compliance, and unnecessary tension between taxpayers and government agencies.
The group suggested that the government should allow more time for public awareness, education, and stakeholder engagement before enforcing the new rules. They believe this would help improve understanding, encourage cooperation, and ensure a smoother transition into the new tax framework.
They also urged the Federal Government to listen to feedback from states, businesses, and professional bodies before moving forward. In their view, tax reforms are important, but they should be introduced carefully to avoid economic disruption and public frustration.
