The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the current leadership in Nigeria of weakening the country’s standing across Africa and the global stage. According to the opposition party, years of poor governance, weak diplomacy, and inconsistent policies have reduced Nigeria’s voice in regional and international affairs. The party said Nigeria, once respected as a leader in Africa, is now struggling to command the same level of influence.
The PDP noted that Nigeria used to play a key role in peacekeeping, economic cooperation, and political mediation across West Africa and beyond. However, it argued that bad leadership decisions, rising insecurity, and economic hardship have damaged the country’s image. The party claimed that foreign investors and international partners are losing confidence due to policy instability and governance challenges.
The opposition party also criticized the government’s handling of foreign relations, saying Nigeria is no longer setting the agenda in regional bodies like ECOWAS. According to the PDP, other African countries are now taking the lead in areas where Nigeria once dominated. It added that weak leadership at home has made it difficult for the country to project strength and credibility abroad.
The PDP called on the federal government to urgently rethink its leadership approach and focus on rebuilding trust, strengthening institutions, and improving governance. It stressed that Nigeria’s population, resources, and history give it the potential to regain its lost influence. The party urged leaders to put national interest first in order to restore Nigeria’s respect and relevance on the global stage.
