Bakoji Adamu has reacted to a recent Supreme Court ruling, warning that emergency powers should never be used to cancel or weaken the mandate freely given by the people. He said democracy is built on the will of voters, and no situation should be allowed to undermine that principle.
According to Adamu, while emergency powers may be necessary in extreme situations, they must be applied with caution and respect for constitutional limits. He stressed that such powers should protect lives and property, not become tools to sideline elected representatives.
He also urged government authorities to always act within the law when invoking emergency measures. Adamu noted that ignoring the people’s mandate could create mistrust, deepen political tension, and weaken confidence in democratic institutions.
Adamu called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and defend democratic values at all times. He added that the Supreme Court ruling should serve as a reminder that the rule of law must guide every action taken by those in power.
