Residents of Umuahia were thrown into fear after a crocodile and a cobra were discovered and killed close to Government College. The sudden appearance of the dangerous animals created panic, especially among people living around the area and students who use the route daily. Many said they had never seen such wildlife so close to the community before.
According to eyewitnesses, the crocodile was first spotted near a drainage path, causing people to run for safety. Not long after, a large cobra was also seen in the same area, raising concerns that more wild animals could be around. Local hunters were called in, and both animals were eventually killed to prevent any possible attack.
Residents believe the animals may have been pushed out of their natural habitat by flooding or bush clearing activities. They are now calling on the state government and environmental officials to investigate the situation. Parents of students in Government College also expressed worry, saying the presence of such animals poses a serious risk to children.
Authorities have advised residents to stay alert and report any unusual wildlife sightings. They also promised to carry out a proper inspection of the environment to ensure people’s safety. For now, the community remains on edge, unsure if more animals could still be hiding nearby.
