Osimhen to battle Salah, Hakimi for 2025 CAF Player of the Year

Nigeria’s football star, Victor Osimhen, has once again been shortlisted for the prestigious 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award. The talented striker, who currently plays for Galatasaray, will compete against nine other top African players for the coveted title. Osimhen previously won the award in 2023, solidifying his reputation as one of Africa’s best forwards.

Among the nominees are Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, DR Congo’s Fiston Mayele, Cameroon’s Frank Anguissa, and Gabon’s Denis Bouanga. Others on the list include Senegal’s Pape Matar Sarr, Ilman Ndiaye, and Algeria’s Ousmanne Lamloui. The competition is expected to be tough as each player had an outstanding year for both club and country.

Osimhen’s nomination comes after another impressive season in which he continued to demonstrate his sharp goal-scoring ability and leadership on the pitch. His performances for club and country have earned him recognition across the football world, making him one of the favourites for the award once again.

The CAF Player of the Year award remains one of the most respected honours in African football, celebrating exceptional performances both in domestic leagues and international competitions. Football fans across Africa are already buzzing in anticipation of who will take home the 2025 crown.

Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, who plays for Atalanta, won the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, making this year’s race even more exciting as Osimhen aims to reclaim his title and bring the award back to Nigeria.
