Kogi-born political activist Usman Okai Austin has called on the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to respond promptly to intelligence reports issued by the Department of State Services (DSS). His remarks followed a DSS alert on an alleged plan by ISWAP terrorists to launch coordinated attacks in Ondo and Kogi States.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Okai commended the DSS for its professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to protecting lives and property across the country. He said the service has remained a vital part of Nigeria’s security structure by providing timely and actionable intelligence to sister agencies such as the Army, Police, and Civil Defence Corps.
Okai stressed that the DSS’s recent warning showed its dedication to preventing threats before they escalate. However, he expressed concern over the slow response of other security agencies to such alerts. Citing a previous case in Yelwata, he noted that an earlier DSS warning was allegedly ignored, leading to tragic loss of lives and property.
He urged state governors to maintain regular security meetings with military and intelligence heads in their states, saying that public assurances must be backed by real action. Okai also encouraged closer coordination between Ondo and Kogi leaders and security agencies to ensure communities remain safe from potential terrorist attacks.
The activist reaffirmed his full support for the DSS, praising its proactive intelligence gathering and consistent efforts to safeguard the nation. He appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that can help prevent attacks. “With better inter-agency collaboration,” Okai said, “Nigeria can overcome its current security challenges.”
