Bandits kill two in attack on Plateau community

Two people have been confirmed dead after gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Daron village in Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday night. The attack, which occurred around 7:50 p.m., also left one person seriously injured.

Confirming the incident, the President of the Berom Youths Moulders Association, Solomon Dalyop, said the gunmen opened fire on residents without provocation. He identified one of the victims as Mr. Pam Choji, adding that the assault came despite prior warnings of possible attacks in the area and neighboring villages.

“In another turn of events at about 7:50 pm on October 21, bandits suspected to be armed Fulani attacked and shot dead two people and injured one at Daron village of Gyel District,” Dalyop stated. “The attack followed an early warning of planned raids on villages in Gyel and nearby communities.”

The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, also confirmed the incident. He said the police were already on their way to the community for an on-the-spot assessment. “Yes, we are aware of the incident. We just concluded our monthly press briefing and are moving to the scene right now,” he told reporters.

The latest assault adds to the growing list of violent attacks in Plateau State in recent months. Governor Caleb Mutfwang has repeatedly assured residents of his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the state, urging all armed groups to lay down their weapons and embrace peace.
