ADC Accuses APC of ‘Political Terrorism’ Over Burning of Ekiti Secretariat

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of engaging in what it described as political terrorism, following the burning of its state secretariat in Ado-Ekiti on Monday. The party alleged that the attack was a deliberate effort to intimidate opposition parties and silence dissenting voices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the early morning arson was part of a coordinated campaign against opposition groups nationwide. The fire incident occurred just hours before the party’s planned reconfiguration and affirmation ceremony, an event aimed at strengthening its political structures in Ekiti State.

Abdullahi condemned the attack in strong terms, calling it a “criminal and anti-democratic act.” He said, “This was a deliberate act of arson intended to sabotage and terrorize the opposition ahead of the governorship election in the state. The ADC condemns this barbaric act in the strongest possible terms. It is criminal, anti-democratic, and a disgrace to all who claim to believe in political freedom.”

The ADC also linked the Ekiti incident to similar attacks in Kaduna, Lagos, Kebbi, Kogi, and Edo States, describing them as evidence of a broader plan to destabilize opposition activities. The statement alleged that since July, when an opposition coalition adopted ADC as its preferred platform, the party had suffered repeated assaults — including attacks on leaders, vehicles, and party offices across various states.

According to Abdullahi, these incidents can no longer be dismissed as isolated cases. “Each of these cases could be dismissed as isolated acts of political miscreants. But taken together — five states, multiple incidents, one consistent target — they form a pattern too dangerous to ignore. This is no longer about partisanship; it is about the integrity of the political process itself,” he warned.
