The Labour Party (LP) in Taraba State has officially inaugurated a caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs following the expiration of the tenure of its former executives.
The inauguration, held on Monday at the party’s state secretariat in Jalingo, was attended by party leaders, members, and supporters who described the event as a peaceful and democratic transition.
The outgoing Chairperson, Dr. (Mrs.) Esther Johnson Gulmu, who now serves as the Deputy National Vice Chairman (North East), said the exercise was more than a routine handover. She called it a “moment of reflection, gratitude, and leadership renewal,” and commended the former executive members for their service to the party.
In his acceptance speech, the new caretaker chairman, Rev. Simon Zubairu, thanked the party’s National Secretariat for their confidence in the new team. He promised to promote unity, inclusiveness, and growth, while also commending Governor Agbu Kefas for his peace efforts in the state.
Other members of the caretaker committee include Augustine Bazin, James Benjamin, Andrew Audu, Deborah Chenny, Lydia Johnson, Emmanuel Peter, Zinox Enoch, Buba Yaro, and Hajiya Fatima Muhammed.
Party supporters expressed optimism that the new leadership would strengthen the LP’s presence in Taraba and position it for greater political relevance.
