Fatal road crash claims 6 lives, injures 8 others in Yobe

A fatal road accident along the Potiskum–Fika Road in Yobe State has claimed six lives and left eight others injured, according to a statement from the Yobe State Police Command. The tragic incident occurred around Maiduwa Junction, drawing swift response from emergency and police officials.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that the crash involved a Sharon vehicle with registration number PKM 549 YZ, driven by Adamu Hassan. The vehicle was traveling from Potiskum to Bajoga in Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State when the driver lost control, leading to a devastating accident.

Reports revealed that six passengers died instantly, while eight others sustained serious injuries. Officers from the Motor Traffic Department (MTD) of the Fika Division quickly arrived at the scene, evacuating both the injured and deceased victims to the General Hospital, Fika. A medical doctor at the hospital confirmed the six fatalities.

SP Abdulkarim added that efforts are ongoing to contact the relatives of the deceased for identification. He further stated that preliminary investigations point to overspeeding, reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, and possible drug use by the driver as causes of the tragic crash.

The police spokesperson urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid reckless behavior, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy. He emphasized that the command remains committed to reducing road traffic crashes and ensuring safer highways across Yobe State.
