Bandits abduct five worshippers, injure one in Zamfara

Armed bandits struck Maradawa village in Rijiya District, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on Thursday morning, abducting five worshippers and leaving one person injured. The attack happened while residents were observing the Subhi (dawn) prayers, causing panic in the community.

According to a report shared by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama on X (formerly Twitter), the attackers opened fire on the worshippers before taking five people away to an unknown destination. One person sustained gunshot wounds during the assault and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Security sources confirmed that troops were immediately deployed to the area following the incident. They have begun tracking the bandits with the goal of rescuing the victims and restoring peace in the community.

The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents plaguing rural communities in Zamfara State, where residents continue to suffer from banditry, kidnappings, and insecurity despite ongoing military operations.

Authorities have assured that the military and security agencies are intensifying efforts to identify and neutralize criminal elements operating across the region to ensure safety for citizens.
