ASUU strike: Embrace dialogue – Progressives Governors tell union

The Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) has called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to embrace dialogue and find a peaceful resolution to its ongoing dispute with the Federal Government. The governors made this appeal in a communiqué released after their two-day meeting, chaired by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma.

According to the Forum, resolving the issues through negotiation is essential for safeguarding the future of Nigerian students and the stability of the nation’s education system. Governor Uzodimma stressed the need for both parties to work together in the spirit of understanding and progress rather than allowing prolonged industrial actions to disrupt academic activities.

Beyond education, the governors also discussed key national priorities, including economic diversification and rural development. They reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Federal Government to boost domestic production, strengthen food security, and support community policing initiatives across their respective states.

The PGF commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and reform efforts, noting visible improvements in economic recovery and national security. The Forum praised Tinubu’s administration for promoting national unity and addressing inflation, which it said was beginning to ease.

The governors also congratulated Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the newly elected APC National Chairman, assuring him of their support and partnership. Uzodimma concluded by saying there is now “greater understanding and cooperation between the Federal Government and the states,” which the Forum intends to strengthen further.
