Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a significant salary increase for security guards at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), raising their pay from ₦18,800 to ₦80,000. The move was widely praised as a bold step toward improving the welfare of junior staff who play an important role in keeping the university safe.
The governor explained that the decision was part of his administration’s commitment to fair wages and better living conditions for workers across the state. Many of the security personnel expressed relief and joy at the announcement, noting that the pay rise would greatly ease their financial burdens and help them support their families.
Makinde’s action has drawn commendation from different quarters, with education stakeholders urging other leaders to emulate such policies. The new wage structure is also expected to boost staff morale and promote efficiency within the institution.
