A Nigerian man has spoken out against the habit of sending elderly parents to live in old people’s homes.

The man, identified as Irogbum Godspower, shared his thoughts on Facebook, saying that parents spend most of their lives caring and sacrificing for their children. Sadly, some of these children end up leaving their aging parents in retirement homes, far away from their loved ones.

“Is this really the reward of parenthood?” he asked.

Godspower also wondered when Nigerians began to drift away from family values, to the point where placing parents in old people’s homes is now considered an option.

His post quickly stirred up reactions online. While many agreed with him and supported his view, others argued that people should not be judged because everyone’s situation is different.
