Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the appointment pattern of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairmen in Nigeria.
In a post he shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ahmad pointed out that since INEC was created, a total of 12 people have held the position of chairman. Out of this number, only two came from the North, while the remaining 10 were from the South-East and South-South regions.
According to him, this clear imbalance in appointments raises serious questions about fairness and equal representation in one of Nigeria’s most important democratic bodies. Ahmad’s statement has since sparked debates among Nigerians about regional representation in the country’s electoral system.
