Tomeka Thiam, the longtime wife of famous Senegalese-American singer Akon, has filed for divorce just a few days before their 29th wedding anniversary.
Court records show that Tomeka submitted the papers on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in Fulton County, Georgia. In the documents, she asked the court to legally end the marriage and grant joint custody of their child, with visitation rights for Akon.
Tomeka also requested spousal support from the singer. At the same time, she asked the court to reject any requests by Akon for similar support.
She explained that her reason for ending the marriage is “irreconcilable differences,” meaning that they cannot fix the problems in their relationship.
Tomeka and Akon got married in September 1996 and have a 17-year-old daughter together.
