A homeless man has confessed to killing a woman with a mallet just a few days after she let him stay in her apartment in Hammersmith, West London.
Apapale Adoum, 39, admitted at the Old Bailey that he killed 37-year-old Victoria Adams, who was discovered dead in her home in February. Prosecutors revealed that Ms. Adams suffered over ten separate head injuries caused by the mallet.
The court learned that Ms. Adams had recently written to Adoum, asking him to leave her home. Neighbors remembered hearing screams during the night shortly before her body was found.
During the hearing, Adoum appeared in a grey t-shirt and handed a document to the court containing insulting remarks about the victim.
Judge Nigel Lickley, KC, told Adoum: “I will sentence you on 24 October to life imprisonment. My task now is to decide the minimum term you must serve before parole.”
This case underscores the risks faced by people who help those in vulnerable situations. The court will now determine how long Adoum must spend in prison before he can be considered for release.
