Seven soldiers gunned down in Niger Republic ambush

Seven soldiers of the Nigerien Defence and Security Forces were killed in an ambush in Tillabéri Region.

The attack occurred near Sanam in Abala Department on Tuesday, March 24, by suspected Islamic State in the Greater Sahara fighters.

Heavily armed assailants first raided Wanni village, stealing livestock before fleeing the scene.

The FDS launched a pursuit operation but were ambushed, resulting in the deaths of seven soldiers and injuries to two others.

One military vehicle and its crew remain unaccounted for, according to sources familiar with the incident.

Tillabéri Region continues to be a hotspot for extremist attacks, with armed groups linked to the Islamic State frequently targeting security forces.
