US President Donald Trump has warned that he might walk out of his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska if the discussions on ending the war in Ukraine do not go well.
Speaking to Fox News host Bret Baier aboard Air Force One, Trump said the meeting “should go very well,” but added that he would return home quickly if it does not. When asked if he was serious, Trump confirmed, “I would walk, yeah.”
The summit is scheduled at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, a location once used for Cold War surveillance. It will include a working breakfast and a joint press conference.
Trump also told reporters that Russia could face “very severe” sanctions if Putin does not participate meaningfully in the peace talks. He added that the US would stop all business with Russia until the conflict, now in its fourth year, ends.
US Vice President JD Vance voiced his support for Trump, posting on X: “Grateful for President Trump’s leadership today as he travels to Alaska to meet with President Putin of Russia. Praying for peace in the days ahead.”
The meeting comes as both leaders face intense global attention and pressure to resolve a war that has severely impacted Ukraine and left Russia isolated on the international stage.
