A first-year student at the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) in Nasarawa State, Ijeoma Blessings Nweke, has tragically passed away after being struck by a tricycle near the university.

The accident took place around 11:30 a.m. on August 13, 2025.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the tricycle rider, Fidelis Zakka from Agyarangu Tasha in Obi Local Government Area, was transporting female passengers from Kayarda, Obi LGA, to the university gate when the collision happened.

Police reports stated that Nweke was crossing the road with friends near the campus speed bumps when the accident occurred.

She was first taken to the Federal University Lafia Clinic and later referred to the National Hospital in Abuja, where she died while receiving medical care.

The tricycle rider has been taken into police custody, and the vehicle has been impounded at ‘A’ Division, Lafia. Investigations into the accident are still ongoing.
