A heartbreaking incident occurred in Pulka, a town in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, where three young girls tragically lost their lives due to a grenade explosion.
The victims, identified as Fati Dahiru, Aisha Ibrahim, and Fati Yakubu, were said to be playing with what appeared to be an abandoned grenade. According to a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Buba Yaga, the explosive is believed to have been left behind by Boko Haram fighters. The blast happened around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Following the explosion, a joint response team made up of police bomb experts (EOD-CBRN), soldiers from Operation Hadin Kai, CJTF members, and local hunters arrived at the location. They secured the area and searched for any additional explosives. Fortunately, no other dangerous items were discovered, and the environment was declared safe.
The injured children were quickly taken to Gwoza General Hospital. Sadly, doctors confirmed that all three had died from their injuries.
Their remains have since been handed over to their grieving families for burial, which was carried out in accordance with Islamic customs.
Security officials are urging the public to report any suspicious items or objects they find. They stressed that prompt alerts to authorities can help prevent such devastating incidents from happening again.
