Six people have been caught by the Lagos State Government for dumping waste in the wrong place. They were seen throwing rubbish on the road median along Old Abeokuta Expressway, just across from the Total filling station in Agege.
The arrest happened on the evening of Wednesday, July 2. It was carried out by a team made up of officers from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) and workers from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. They were out to monitor how waste is being handled in the area.
Mr Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, shared the news on his official X account. He said the suspects were caught in the act, carelessly dumping waste where they shouldn’t.
The six people arrested are Khalifa Mohammed, Sanusi Bello, Monsuru Salisu, Uzor Michael, Michael Obi, and Ajoke Shobande. Their names were made public as part of the government’s effort to discourage others from doing the same.
According to the commissioner, they will be taken to court based on Lagos State’s environmental laws. The goal is to reduce illegal dumping and make the environment cleaner and safer for everyone in Lagos.
