The United States has confirmed airstrikes on three key nuclear facilities in Iran, escalating tensions between the two nations. On Saturday, June 21, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the mission was a success, marking a critical point in the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict.
According to U.S. defense officials, stealth B-2 Spirit bombers carried out the strikes using powerful GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator bombs. These 30,000-pound weapons are designed to target deeply buried, heavily protected facilities, making them ideal for operations against Iran’s underground nuclear sites.
The Fordow nuclear facility, built into a mountain, was the main focus of the attack. This site has drawn international concern for its advanced uranium enrichment capabilities, which could be used for creating nuclear weapons.
The B-2 bombers, which are considered the most advanced in the U.S. military, played a central role in the operation. These stealth aircraft can deliver powerful strikes while avoiding detection. The Air Force highlights their ability to penetrate the strongest defenses and carry out missions globally.
Each B-2 bomber can carry up to 40,000 pounds of weaponry, including nuclear and conventional arms. Operated by a two-person crew, these aircraft have unlimited range with aerial refueling. First introduced in 1989, the B-2 has been used in conflicts in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Yemen, and now Iran. Only 20 remain in active service, each valued at around $2 billion.
Trump assured the public that all U.S. aircraft involved in the operation had exited Iranian airspace without any incidents. He described the strike as a “precision operation” and emphasized its successful execution.
The operation comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East. The collapse of the 2015 nuclear deal and repeated clashes between Israel and Iran have raised global concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Trump celebrated the strike as a demonstration of America’s unmatched military capabilities but called for peace in its aftermath. He declared, “NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE,” suggesting the mission was intended to deter further conflict rather than start a war.

Iran criticized the attack, labeling it a violation of international law and pledging to continue its nuclear program. Global leaders have expressed concern about the possibility of retaliation or increased instability in the region.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated that the targets included the Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. These facilities are vital to Iran’s uranium enrichment and nuclear development programs, making them key points in the operation.
