Court restricts tailor’s working hours over noise pollution

A magistrate court in Kano found a local tailor named Mubarak Yusuf guilty of causing environmental harm because the noise from his sewing machine and generator disturbed people living nearby.

The Kano State Ministry of Environment took the case after many residents complained that the loud sounds, especially during nighttime, were bothering their peace and sleep.

According to a statement from the ministry, the tailor denied making too much noise, but the court saw proof that did not support his claim.

The court personally visited the area and confirmed that the noise levels were indeed very high.

After looking at all the facts, the court decided that Yusuf must only work from 6 in the morning until 9 at night every day.

The Kano State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Dahir Hashim, praised the court’s ruling and said the ministry will work harder to protect the environment and residents’ peace.
