Many shot de@d as unknown gunmen storm area near Oko polytechnic and kidnap several persons (photos)

A tragic event happened near the Federal Polytechnic in Oko, Anambra State, on the evening of Thursday, June 19. Unknown gunmen attacked lodges close to the Total petrol station, killing many people and kidnapping an unknown number of others. Witnesses said the gunmen suddenly arrived in two vehicles and started shooting.

Some students who live in nearby lodges captured the terrifying scene on their phones. In the background of their videos, the students could be heard talking in fear as they watched the events unfold from inside their rooms. They didn’t dare to go outside because the gunshots kept going for a long time.

Videos shared online showed several people lying on the ground, bleeding. While some were already dead, others were still alive but seriously injured and in pain. Sadly, no one could help them because the gunmen were still shooting.

One of the people killed during the attack was a man who sold barbecue in the area. Local residents recognized him in one of the videos. Some reports that have not been confirmed yet claim that lecturers from the polytechnic may have also been kidnapped during the incident, but this has not been officially verified.

Some people in the community believe the attack may be connected to a new checkpoint that was recently set up near the petrol station by a local security group called Operation Udo Ga Achi.

The checkpoint added to others that were already in place nearby, and this reportedly caused some tension. However, it is still unclear how the situation at the checkpoint led to such violence. The people behind the attack are still unknown, and the motive remains a mystery.
