Attack on Yelwata aided by locals – Defence Chief

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has said that some people living in Benue State may have helped the criminals who attacked Yelwata community and killed many people.

Speaking during a press meeting at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, General Musa said the attackers were given food, shelter, and even women by some members of the community.

He also revealed that some local informants showed the attackers where the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp was, which led to the high number of deaths.

Even though the military had gotten information earlier about possible attacks and had sent troops to those areas, the attackers tricked them and carried out their plans.

“These criminals were hidden by people in the area. They were fed, given women, and shown where the IDP camp was. Yet, no one gave us any useful information,” General Musa said sadly.

President Bola Tinubu has now ordered the full use of all security forces, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and intelligence services, to find those responsible for the attack.

General Musa reminded Nigerians that everyone must take part in keeping the country safe. He said security agencies cannot do it alone.

He also asked the government to take urgent steps to secure Nigeria’s borders. He warned that criminals and weapons are entering the country from troubled places like Sudan, Libya, and the Central African Republic.

General Musa added that violence from the Sahel region is spreading into Nigeria through routes that are not well monitored.
