San Diego pride sponsors pull out over singer Kehlani’s headlining performance after support for Palestine

San Diego Pride is dealing with a major challenge after several sponsors backed out of the event. Their decision came after R&B singer Kehlani was announced as one of the main performers.

The sponsors that pulled their support include UC San Diego, UC San Diego Health, and San Diego’s Mayor Todd Gloria. They said their concerns were tied to Kehlani’s outspoken support for Palestine, especially during the current conflict in Gaza. Some Jewish organizations also cut ties with the event, accusing the singer of promoting antisemitic views.

Kehlani has faced similar reactions in the past. Earlier this year, Cornell University canceled her scheduled performance for Slope Day, saying her views were anti-Israel. In another incident, her Central Park show was canceled in May over security worries. Despite the criticism, Kehlani remained firm. At the 2025 American Music Awards, she condemned violence and said caring about human suffering should be something everyone does naturally.

In response to the recent controversy, UC San Diego released a statement saying they reject antisemitism and continue to support a respectful and inclusive space for everyone, including Jewish individuals. San Diego Pride organizers said they were disappointed by the withdrawals but respected the choices of those who chose not to take part this year.

Kehlani took to Instagram to react to the situation. She said she wasn’t bothered by the negative attention. Meanwhile, TMZ tried to get a response from Mayor Gloria, but he has not responded yet.
