Singer, Grimes cries out over family crisis, cancels pride show amid parenting war with Elon Musk

Grimes, the Canadian singer and former partner of Elon Musk, has canceled her performance at a Pride Month event, and her fans are very worried.

The 37-year-old artist, whose real name is Claire Boucher, shared a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), explaining that she is facing serious family issues and must step away from the stage for now.

“I am so, so sorry and regretful to say I have to cancel my pride show in order to deal with family issues,” she wrote.

She was supposed to perform at the World Pride Festival in Washington D.C., an event packed with big names like Jennifer Lopez, Troye Sivan, RuPaul, Rita Ora, and Kim Petras. Her cancellation has surprised many, especially since it comes during her very public parenting battle with Musk.

Grimes and Musk have three children together with unique names: X Æ A-12, Exa, and Techno. She says the fight over parenting has become too much, and she’s been very open about the emotional toll it’s taken.

She has tried to handle things privately, spoken out publicly during a medical emergency involving their son, and even taken the legal fight from California to Texas. Grimes is not just fighting to see her children, but also trying to protect her peace of mind.

“I have tried begging the public and my kids’ dad to keep them offline,” she once tweeted. “I’ve tried legal recourse.”

“I’m not giving any details, but he won’t respond to texts, calls or emails,” she later added. “Our child will suffer lifelong impairment if he doesn’t respond ASAP.”

In 2023, Grimes filed for parental rights in California. Musk responded with his own legal action in Texas, where his major companies like Tesla and SpaceX are based. Reports say the Texas case is now settled, but the details haven’t been shared.

On top of this, Grimes shared that her children were not allowed to visit her terminally ill mother — something that made the situation even more heartbreaking.

Grimes has also been open about her personal struggles. She has spoken about having autism, ADHD, and possibly dyslexia. She says motherhood has deeply changed her life.

“Motherhood 100% THE MOST NOBLE task,” she wrote on May 10. “Having kids is the most selfless decision, an investment in all of us.”

Despite sharing her story and being honest with fans, some are disappointed that she canceled a performance that meant a lot to them. To them, she simply says, “I’ll make this up to you very soon.”

For now, Grimes is choosing to be with her family and stepping away from the spotlight. Many are watching closely to see what happens next in this emotional and very real chapter of her life.
