Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has spoken out about manager Mikel Arteta’s time at the club, saying he hasn’t won enough trophies.
Henry said fans have every right to question Arteta. It’s been five years since Arsenal won a big trophy, and they have often finished in second place during that time.
Since becoming manager in December 2019, Arteta has only won one major trophy—the FA Cup in his first season. He also won two Community Shields, but many fans don’t see those as big achievements.
Henry has now shared his honest opinion about the team’s lack of silverware. He compared Arsenal’s recent performance to that of Manchester United.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast by Sky Bet, Henry said he’s not disappointed, but he understands why people are asking questions about where the team is going.
He explained that when Arteta first arrived, the team wasn’t fully his. Managers usually need three or four transfer windows to build the team they want.
Henry said managers need time to put their plans into action. But after three years of rebuilding, he believes Arsenal should have reached at least one final or won another trophy.
He pointed out that Manchester United, a team often criticized, has played in five finals over the last five years. Meanwhile, Arsenal hasn’t reached a final in the past three years.
Henry ended by saying that it’s normal for people to ask why Arsenal isn’t seriously competing for trophies yet.
