Tottenham Hotspur captain, Son Heung-min, has filed a complaint with the South Korean police after a woman allegedly tried to blackmail him by claiming she was pregnant.
Reports say that a woman in her 20s and a man in his 40s are under investigation in Seoul. According to Yonhap News Agency and The Korea Times, the two are accused of trying to extort money from the football star by lying about the pregnancy.
Son said that the woman pretended to be pregnant in order to get hundreds of millions of South Korean won from him. (For reference, one British pound equals about 1,859 Korean won.)
His legal team explained that this false pregnancy claim was made back in June 2023. The woman reportedly asked for money to stay quiet about it.
Son, who is 32 years old, is not married and has no known children. He filed his complaint with the police last week.
In the past, Son has said he does not plan to have children until he retires from football. He wants to focus completely on his career while playing at the highest level.
His current contract with Tottenham ends next year.
In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Son shared that his father advised him to make football his top priority while he’s still active. He said once someone gets married and has kids, family becomes the most important. That’s why he wants to wait until after retirement before settling down.
Son also mentioned that a football career doesn’t last forever, and there will be enough time to enjoy life with a family afterward.
In the past, Son was known to have dated Korean pop stars Bang Min-ah and Yoo So-young.
