The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has shared his thoughts about the First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Remi Tinubu. According to him, their relationship is very respectful and friendly.
Wike described Mrs. Tinubu as a very humble woman who truly wants the best for President Bola Tinubu’s government. He said she always puts the success of Nigeria first.
Speaking during his regular monthly press briefing in Abuja, Wike made it clear that Mrs. Tinubu has never put him under pressure. She has never asked him for land or government contracts, which is something many people might expect.
Wike shared that getting to know the First Lady better made him realize how kind and supportive she is. He said she is unlike many others who have held similar positions at local, state, or national levels.
He recalled a moment when her personal aide called him while he was on his way to Wassa. She got on the phone and politely mentioned that the roads leading to the Presidential Villa were in bad shape. Since the President was not in town at the time, she asked if something could be done about it.
Wike said he was surprised that she didn’t use her position to make demands but instead focused on the condition of public roads. He quickly called Julius Berger, the construction company, to fix the roads.
Another incident happened when Wike was in China. His aide informed him that the First Lady’s aide wanted him to return a call. When he did, she simply thanked him for fixing the road. Wike said her humility truly touched him.
She also once suggested that the City Gate in Abuja should be redesigned to make it more attractive for people entering the city. Again, she didn’t make it about herself but showed that she cared about the image of the capital city.
Wike finished by saying that Mrs. Tinubu has never called him to ask for personal favors like land or contracts. Instead, she always talks about what will help the government succeed. He praised her humility and said her support plays a big role in helping the administration.
