PDP can’t win in 2027, selfish interest may kill party – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has spoken out again, warning that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may not survive if selfish interests continue to lead it.

Speaking during his monthly press conference in Abuja on Monday, Wike said he doesn’t believe PDP will win the 2027 general election if things don’t change.

He said leadership is very important. If a party doesn’t have good leadership, it will face problems. According to Wike, this is something he has been saying for a long time.

He defended the current Delta State governor and the former one for joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said their only “offense” was that they supported President Bola Tinubu. He asked why that should be seen as a crime.

Wike then pointed out that the Chairman of PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT), who is supposed to guide the party, supported Alex Otti, a governor from the Labour Party, for a second term. He questioned why nobody is talking about that.

He said it’s only the ruling party that might get away with things like this. The opposition party should be united if they want to win power.

Wike asked what the PDP has done to bring new members or win support. Instead of doing that, the party is focused on attacking him just because he is a minister in an APC-led government.

He reminded everyone that even though he didn’t support the PDP presidential candidate, he made sure PDP won all the important elections in his state—from governor to state and national assembly.

He then challenged any other sitting or former governor to say they delivered 100% for PDP like he did.

Wike warned that the PDP could fall apart if it continues to let selfishness rule. He said the party is repeating the same mistakes from 2023 by ignoring and excluding people.

He ended by saying that being “smart” without fixing real problems won’t help the party. He advised PDP leaders to stop these clever games and focus on doing what’s right.
