The Nasarawa State Police have made it clear that there is no curfew in Lafia, even though many people think there is.
Police explained that only motorcycles and tricycles are not allowed to move around at night. This does not mean everyone has to stay indoors.
Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, shared this information on Monday. He was responding to people in Lafia who said they were being harassed by police officers at night.
Nansel said people are confusing the rule about motorcycles and tricycles with a full curfew.
He explained that a curfew would stop everyone from moving, including cars and businesses, but that’s not what is happening.
The current rule is only for motorcycles and tricycles. It is meant to help keep the city safe and stop crime at night.
People are still allowed to walk around or drive cars. Also, workers who provide important services are not affected by this rule.
Talking about police officers asking people for money, Nansel said those reports will be taken seriously and looked into properly.
He asked anyone who has been a victim of such behavior to report it, so that the police can take action.
Nansel also said if people follow the rule, there will be fewer complaints and fewer problems.
The police shared these numbers for people to report any bad behavior: 07032532391 or 08037461715.
