Explain why you blocked Nnamdi Kanu from his lead lawyer, Kanu Agabi – Ejimakor to DSS

Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team has questioned why the Department of State Services (DSS) blocked his lead lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, from visiting him.

On Monday, Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, shared this concern in a statement posted on social media platform X.

He said Agabi had gone to the DSS facility in Abuja to meet with Kanu but was denied access to him.

Ejimakor strongly criticized the DSS for this action. He said it goes against the legal right to a fair trial.

According to Ejimakor, the DSS must explain why they turned away such a senior lawyer from seeing his client. He added that Agabi left the DSS office feeling very angry.

Kanu has been kept in DSS custody since June 2021 after he was arrested in Kenya and brought back to Nigeria in a controversial way.

Later, the Appeal Court in Abuja discharged and cleared him of all the serious charges, but the Nigerian government still refused to let him go.

Some time ago, Justice Binta Nyako stepped down from handling Kanu’s trial due to repeated delays and issues.

The case was then given to another judge, Justice James Omotosho. After taking over, the government filed new terrorism charges against Kanu.

Right now, the court is hearing from government witnesses who are testifying against him.
