The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said that May 30, 2025, will be a full lockdown in the Southeast region of Nigeria. The group made this announcement to honour Biafran heroes and heroines.
According to IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, the day is set aside to remember those who lost their lives fighting for Biafra’s freedom. He said this special day is very important to all Biafrans.
Emma Powerful asked all people living in the Southeast to stay indoors on that day. He said the lockdown is not just a public holiday but a day to show respect to the brave men and women of Biafra.
IPOB mentioned that this yearly event is called Biafra Heroes and Heroines Memorial Day. It is a time to remember and show love for those who sacrificed their lives.
The group has already started making people aware of this event from May 1, 2025. They are using Radio Biafra and social media to spread the message.
Throughout May, IPOB will also hold talks and events, both in Nigeria and outside the country, to honour the Biafran heroes. These events are part of the remembrance.
The biggest part of the memorial will happen on May 30, 2025. IPOB has officially named it BIAFRA HEROES MEMORIAL DAY.
It is a day for all Biafrans to pause and think about the freedom fighters who gave up their lives for the Biafra movement.
The group has declared that this day will be a complete holiday. There will be no work, no business, and no movement in Biafra land.
IPOB also warned everyone to stay indoors for safety. They said that Nigerian security forces might be on the streets and could harm innocent people.
They made it clear that if anyone chooses to ignore this order and something happens to them, they should not blame anyone.
IPOB says it cares deeply about the lives of Igbo people. They want to make sure nobody else is killed during this time of remembrance.
They also asked all drivers and transport workers to stay off the roads on May 30, 2025.
