UK police recover body of 16-year-old British-Nigerian boy who drowned in lake

A heartbreaking incident has occurred in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom, where a 16-year-old British-Nigerian boy tragically drowned in a lake.

The boy, Valentine Ikechukwu, went missing while swimming at Colwick Country Park last Wednesday. Police said that an underwater search team later found his body after hours of searching.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 5:20 p.m. after reports that Valentine had disappeared in the water. Firefighters and police divers quickly responded and found his body just before 8:00 p.m.

Valentine was a former student at Nottingham College. Since the news of his passing, many people have shared messages of sympathy and love for the young teen.

In a statement, Valentine’s family expressed their deep sorrow. They said he was a well-loved son and brother, and that they are heartbroken over his death. “Valentine will remain in our hearts forever,” they said. “Long live Valentine, forever 16.”

His family also mentioned how much his friends liked him and how hard it is for them to accept his sudden loss. “He will be forever missed,” they added.

Nottingham College confirmed that Valentine had studied business there and had left earlier this year. A spokesperson said, “Our thoughts are with his family at this incredibly difficult time. He was a popular student, and we are offering support to his former classmates.”

Police stated that they are not treating Valentine’s death as suspicious and that a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Detective Inspector Gail Routledge described the event as a terrible tragedy. She extended condolences to Valentine’s family and friends and used the opportunity to warn others about the risks of swimming in open water.

She said, “This shows how dangerous open water can be, whether someone goes in on purpose or by accident.”
