In a shocking case from Jigawa State, a 20-year-old groom, Auwal Abdulwahab, and his three friends have been arrested for allegedly causing the death of his wife through non-consensual sexual activity. The incident occurred on April 26, 2025, in Tungo village, Albasu District, within the Sule Tankarkar local government area.
According to police spokesman, SP. Lawan Shiisu Adam, the groom is accused of planning the attack on his wife, just days after their wedding. Auwal, along with his three friends—Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa—reportedly entered their home with the intention of coercing the bride into sexual activity against her will. Unfortunately, during the encounter, the wife died.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bride had previously disagreed with her husband about marital relations until their wedding. After the tragic event, police quickly arrived at the scene, and her body was taken to Gumel General Hospital. The doctor confirmed her death, and the body was later released to her family for burial.
The suspects were taken into custody for further investigation. The Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi, ordered that the case be transferred to the State CID in Dutse for a thorough investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the suspects will face charges, including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, under relevant laws.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of consent and the consequences of violating it.
