Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has told security officers to arrest anyone seen with dreadlocks in Minna, the state capital. This decision was announced during a security meeting on Tuesday, April 22.
According to Governor Bago, people with dreadlocks will be arrested, forced to cut their hair, and made to pay a fine. He said this is part of a new effort to stop bad behavior in the state.
“We won’t accept any form of misbehavior. Anyone with dreadlocks should be arrested, get a haircut, and be fined. No strange hairstyles will be allowed in Minna. I have told security officers to act immediately,” he said.
The governor also asked parents to watch their children more closely. He warned that the government would now be stricter about keeping the city safe.
This order has sparked strong reactions from Nigerians on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Many people believe it goes against personal freedom and are speaking out online.
