A Nigerian female lawyer, Samuel Gift Onyinye Ola, has shared strong advice for men when it comes to handling property in a marriage. She said that if a man gets divorced and his wife takes part of his property, it shows the man was not smart in protecting his assets.
To avoid this, she suggested that men should register their property in their children’s names. This way, if a divorce happens, the property is safe and cannot be claimed by the wife.
Her statement has started conversations online, with some agreeing and others sharing different views. But her main point is clear—men should take steps to protect their property before problems arise in marriage.
“If a woman divorce you and takes part in your property, it means you’re not smart as a man. There’s something called irrevocable TRUST. Register in the name of your kids, it ceases to be part of a marriage property,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 23.
“The only exception to this could be Timing. If you run to “the trust” during your time of divorce, it will not be honored , it becomes a malicious step . If the trust was established BEFORE the marriage, it is more likely to be viewed as separate property. If it was created during the marriage, it may be subject to division.”
