A serious road accident happened early Friday morning on Kara Bridge, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The crash involved many vehicles, including large trucks and private cars. It happened around 6 a.m. and caused a huge traffic jam that lasted for hours.
The road was almost completely blocked, and thousands of people were stuck in traffic. The jam stretched back as far as Otedola Bridge, affecting many commuters heading towards OPIC—a key route that connects Lagos to other parts of southwestern Nigeria.
Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene. They helped the injured and started clearing the damaged vehicles from the road.
Thankfully, no deaths have been confirmed, but some people were hurt in the crash.
LASTMA shared updates on social media, confirming the accident and asking drivers to remain patient. They said the crash was likely caused by a truck that lost its brakes and rammed into other vehicles.
By around midday, LASTMA reported some progress. Two lanes were opened to allow traffic to start moving again, although the removal of one of the large trucks was still ongoing.
Drivers are advised to stay alert and drive carefully, especially along busy highways like the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
