2027: Passers-by, people on transit won’t contest under LP again – Obi declares

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has said that only real members of the party will be allowed to contest in future elections. He made this statement during a Labour Party National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

Obi pointed out that some politicians who were elected under the Labour Party later switched to the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said this must stop.

According to him, the party wants to make sure that only loyal and competent members run for positions like House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, or Governor.

He added that the Labour Party is working to fix past mistakes. “We want to be a party with strong values, not just one that gives tickets to anyone passing by,” Obi said.

He praised those lawmakers who remained loyal to the Labour Party, even when it was tough. Obi said it’s better to lose an election while doing the right thing than to win by supporting the wrong people.

In summary, Obi wants the Labour Party to grow into a party of strong beliefs and trusted members who will stay committed no matter what.
