You haven’t recovered from 2023 painful defeat – Presidency fires back at Peter Obi

Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Obi accused the government of worsening Nigeria’s economy and failing to improve the lives of citizens.

During a recent interview, Obi mocked Tinubu, saying the president is only fulfilling his campaign promise—to continue the policies of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He pointed out that the exchange rate has skyrocketed from about N400 per dollar to N1,500, making life harder for Nigerians. He also questioned claims of job creation, asking where the jobs and investments are.

Obi emphasized that a capable leader could turn things around. He promised that if given the opportunity, he would address Nigerians every month to keep them informed about the state of the nation.

However, the presidency was quick to respond. Daniel Bwala, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, dismissed Obi’s comments. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bwala accused Obi of lacking facts and making baseless arguments. He claimed Obi is still struggling to accept his defeat in the 2023 elections.

Bwala further stated that Nigerians “dodged a bullet” by not electing Obi and suggested that Obi is now isolated in his political journey, struggling to remain relevant as an opposition figure.

The exchange highlights the ongoing political tension between Obi and the ruling government as Nigerians continue to face economic challenges.
