Russia has warned the United States about the serious risks of attacking Iran’s nuclear sites. The warning comes after former President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Iran if it refuses to agree to a new nuclear deal with the US.
In a recent interview with NBC News, Trump made it clear that Iran would face military strikes and strict economic sanctions if it did not negotiate. He stated, ‘If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.’
Moscow, which has been strengthening its ties with Iran, strongly opposed Trump’s threats. Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said such threats and ultimatums were unacceptable. Speaking to the Russian journal International Affairs, he condemned the US approach, saying that Washington was trying to force its will on Iran.
Ryabkov also warned that military strikes, especially on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, could have ‘catastrophic’ effects on the entire region.
This growing tension adds to the already strained relationship between Russia and the US. Although Russian President Vladimir Putin has tried to maintain diplomatic ties with Trump, Moscow sees his recent comments as a dangerous escalation.
Trump’s threats come after he withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal, which placed limits on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. The withdrawal led to rising tensions and fears of conflict. While Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, the US remains skeptical.
Ryabkov urged all parties to work towards a reasonable agreement while there is still time. He said Russia is ready to help mediate discussions between Washington, Tehran, and other interested countries to prevent further conflict.
With tensions rising, the world watches closely to see if diplomacy will prevail or if military action will follow.
