Pregnant woman dies after hospital allegedly denies treatment over N500,000 deposit

A tragic incident has sparked outrage after a pregnant woman, Kemi Akinbobola, reportedly died because a private hospital refused to treat her without a N500,000 deposit.

The heartbreaking story was shared on Instagram by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi. In an emotional video, Kemi appeared weak as she sat inside a car while her husband pleaded with her to stay strong.

“Kemi, please look at me. Stay strong. Think about your kids. You need to be strong for me,” he begged desperately.

Folajimi explained that the hospital refused to provide emergency treatment without the payment. Despite his pleas, they were turned away, forcing them to look for another option.

“The doctor asked for a N500,000 deposit. I begged him to start treatment while I sourced the money, but they refused and sent us away,” he said.

They were then referred to a general hospital in Epe, but the distance was too far for Kemi’s condition. Unfortunately, she passed away before they could reach the hospital.

“Even the doctor knows that Epe from Lakwe is too far for an emergency like this. By the time we got there, she was gone,” Folajimi shared in distress.

This heartbreaking case has fueled anger online, with many criticizing the poor state of healthcare in Nigeria and the alleged negligence of private hospitals.

Attempts to get a response from Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
