The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied reports that Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle’s contract has been terminated.
After Nigeria’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifying matches in March, there were speculations about Chelle’s future. However, a senior official from the NFF dismissed these claims, calling them “fake news.”
The official, who spoke anonymously to The PUNCH, confirmed that the NFF’s executive committee had not held any meeting regarding Chelle’s contract. Instead, the coach is currently on a trip to Europe, where he plans to meet Nigerian players and convince some to play for the Super Eagles.
One of the key players Chelle is expected to meet is Arsenal’s young talent, Ethan Nwaneri. Nwaneri’s chances of playing for Nigeria have increased after he was overlooked by England during the last international break.
Chelle, who was appointed as Super Eagles coach in January on a two-year contract, has managed two matches so far. Under his leadership, Nigeria secured a 2-0 win against Rwanda in Kigali but later settled for a 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in Uyo.
