Cocaine worth £1million is found hidden inside electric wheelchair during security check

Security officers at Manchester Airport have discovered nearly £1 million worth of cocaine hidden inside an electric wheelchair. The incident happened on Sunday when a passenger arrived from Bridgetown, Barbados.

Border Force officers conducted a scan of the wheelchair and found 11 packages of cocaine weighing 12kg. The drugs were hidden inside the seat and backrest, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).

A 56-year-old Portuguese man, Casimiro De Lemos-Francisco, has been charged with drug smuggling. He is scheduled to appear in Manchester Crown Court on May 6.

NCA senior investigator Charles Lee stated that criminals use clever methods to smuggle drugs. He emphasized that the NCA works with international and local partners to stop the flow of Class A drugs and protect the public.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, highlighting the risks and dangers associated with drug smuggling.
